The junior band in this academic year 2007/2008 is made up of 39 members. These are
divided up into the various instruments as follows: 6 flutes, 2 oboes, 7 clarinets, 2 tenor
Saxaphones, 4 french horns, 7 trumpets, 1 Alto Saxaphone, 3 tubas, 3 euphoniums,
3 trombones and 1 percussionist.
18 of the junior band members are playing in the NCH for the first time this year as they
have progressed up from the tyro band and so have only been playing their instruments
for just over a year. The other 20 members of the band are all very experienced at this stage
and have been been playing their instruments now for over 2 years. This is their second
appearance in the NCH.
The conductor of the junior the band is Richard Treston and we welcome Sean Fleming this
year as a new member of staff who takes half of the band for sectional practice on Monday
nights. Sean is the father of our percussionist Stephen.
There will be other outings
and events during the coming year with one of the highlights being a weekend away for music
and fun probably in early March.
